Spotlight on... Wits Paediatric Fund

Wits Paediatric Fund Website

  What does your organisation do?

The Wits Paediatric Fund raises funds in order to provide essential medical equipment, supplementary medical/therapeutic staff, professional development training, and material for renovations at - Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.

How many are employed at your organisation?

The office establishment covers an in-house Development Officer, a Marketing Collateral, and an intern from the Vaal University of Technology
What current projects are you involved in?
  • Acquiring state of the art equipment for the three public hospitals that we serve
  • The Magic Wand Sprinkling Sparkles of Hope Campaign
  • We continually host fundraising events such as the Zoo Trot and the Annual Ball to be held on 07 November this year.
What challenges do you sometimes face that prohibits you from doing your work efficiently and effectively?

Marketing and building brand recognition so as to attract more donors/sponsors. Another challenge would be the fact that many donors prefer in-kind donation rather than cash donations.

What would you consider to be your organisation's greatest achievement?

Creating a Kangaroo Mother Care ward at all three hospitals that we serve, and also securing and facilitating the purchase of essential equipment.
And, getting sponsorship and support from the Carl & Emily Fuchs Foundation.

What are your plans for the future?

The fund plans on expanding the fundraising events and getting exposure. The more funds we can raise, the more we can see to it that all our funding priorities are funded.

Technology is considered to be an enabler. How do you think it can be used to make your work easier?
As a platform for networking and marketing our organisation.
A workshop of some sort to keep people updated on how to handle and use technology with all the devices and software that come along with it. Sometimes it can appear cumbersome when all you know is word (2000) and excel but do not really know how to operate on a networking website like NGO Connect Africa or Facebook, etc.
