So, how do you get started in this wonderful world of technology? Where do you begin either as an individual or as an organisation? Let’s look at what you will need... First things first. What kind of technology do you currently have? Do you have computers, how old are they and how can you get hold of computers that are usable and equipped with the latest software. We introduce you to the Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher (MAR) programme that collects computers worldwide and distributes them to developing countries.
Community MARs upgrade computers with the latest licenced software and pass them on to NGOs and deserving communities. We steer you in the right direction if you would like to benefit from any of these programmes or if you would like to donate some of your old computers to organisations that cannot afford to buy their own.
Funding of computers and access to the latest software is often a stumbling block to NGOs joining the twenty first century. Microsoft has a grants programme in place called Cybergrants that addresses this problem. Find out how you can qualify for such a grant and where to apply for one.
If you have computers but need access to software at reduced cost you might be eligible for a software donation. We investigate this further. We also look at organisations who received Cybergrants and the difference it has made to the way they run.
