Useful tips when submitting your application

Be clear about what you want to say
Remember there are many organisations that are applying for donations and being able to say what you want in a clear, concise manner will allow the decision makers to understand your proposal and want to award you the software.

What’s your business?
An overview of your organisation and what it does is a good way of putting your project into context. The company must feel that it is worth their money to invest in your organisation based on the work that you do.

South African Organisations
In South Africa, you can apply for a software donation through Tech Soup on SANGOTECH

As an NGO you are concerned about funds and getting funding sometimes sounds much easier than it really is. So, when you are faced with a situation where you need to upgrade your software in a cost effective way and legally, you would want to know where you can get it at the best price.
One organisation that is willing to help you with this is TechSoup. TechSoup is a global organisation that provides IT knowledge and resources to non-profits and NGOs. With corporate partners and donors, Tech Soup is able to reach NGOs across the world and deliver technology at affordable rates.
SangoNet’s SangoTech is an online technology donation and discount portal that is in partnership with TechSoup and aims to link technology to NGOs in South Africa. SangoTech does this by:

-    Providing software at discounted prices
-    Assisting NGOs to make optimal use of their purchases

  • Who is Eligible?
    -    a Public Benefit Organisation
    -    a Non-Profit Organisation

As an NGO you must be willing to confirm your organisation type by producing the relevant documentation as stated on the SangoTech site.

  • What are the procedures?
SangoTech has an online registration form that you need to complete when you would like to purchase an item from TechSoup. Once the form is completed your organisation will be checked for eligibility.
It is advisable to make sure you know what to do when you place your order since the various partners may have different procedures.
SangoTech does require an administration fee, but this is nothing compared to the savings your organisation will make when you purchase your software through SangoTech.
